Egg Whites – Powdered or Fresh?
As those of you who read my blog regularly know, I often recommend using dried, natural (NOTHING ADDED) egg white protein powder in smoothies or as part of a pre or post workout meal for athletes.
There are several brands on the market, but the only one I've found which is literally JUST egg white, is the NOW brand powder. Have a look at the ingredient panel: egg whites. Period!
One client recently asked whether she could use raw egg white in lieu of the powder, and wondered wouldn't that be more natural, and more Paleo?
I'd have to say, yes, it would be! However, many people are not comfortable with using the raw version due the potential for making one quite ill from salmonella, or various other bacteria.
My best advice is to make the choice for yourself; if you have access to farm-fresh, Omega 3 eggs that you know are safe to consume AND you are comfortable doing so, that you always have that option. I would NOT advise you to do this if you already have a compromised immune system in any way, shape or form.
We always have the choice of what we want to put into our bodies- do your research and choose wisely!
