Fresh figs in port wine is both a traditionally and seasonally appropriate part of the holidays...and they have a part in Paleo, too! A slightly less sweeter version than the original which calls for added sugar, without losing any of the flavor.
Ingredients
1 cup water
1 cup ruby port
1 cinnamon stick
12 large, fresh figs, halved, stems removed
Instructions
Combine liquid with cinnamon in heavy bottomed sauce pan
Bring to a boil then immediately reduce to simmer
Add figs and let simmer 15 minutes
Let cool slightly then serve
