How can it be that we don’t need to count calories on The Paleo Diet? It’s simple- the macro nutrient balance – the amount of protein, fat and carbohydrates we eat- is far more important than the number of calories. If we eat according to the balanced Paleo concept, roughly 40/30/30, the glycemic load of any given meal is lower than a meal that might have less calories, but they may come from a higher, more sugary source. True Paleo allows the body to maintain even blood sugar levels, creating a situation where we are far less likely to ‘crash’, make poor food choices and end up holding on to extra weight.
