Fresh figs in port wine is both a traditionally and seasonally appropriate part of the holidays...and they have a part in Paleo, too! A slightly less sweeter version than the original which calls for added sugar, without losing any of the flavor.
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup ruby port
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 12 large, fresh figs, halved, stems removed
  1. Combine liquid with cinnamon in heavy bottomed sauce pan
  2. Bring to a boil then immediately reduce to simmer
  3. Add figs and let simmer 15 minutes
  4. Let cool slightly then serve
