A Treat For Paleo Athletes

In keeping with the guidelines in The Paleo Diet for Athletes, we athletes can take advantage of a solo espresso and some dried fruit as part of our preparation for, and recovery from, endurance training.

Why not combine the two?

A dear friend of mine shared the following, super simple idea with me the other day, for a last minute, pre-w/o snack to top off the fuel tank before starting your long training session:

-Pull yourself a single espresso shot (if you don't have an espresso machine at home, try coffee, or pick up an espresso from your local cafe!).

-Place a dried fig or two into the cup- and leave it there for 10 – 15 minutes.

Because we're only talking about two dried figs, the fibre content shouldn't be an issue.  The high glycemic index of the dried fruit isn't an issue  when you're just about to begin training, in fact, it's exactly what you do want to have at this time!  Finally, caffeine has been proven time and time again to be an effective (and the only legal) ergogenic aid in training.
