Benefits of Caffeine – Yes- A Little Black Espresso Is Paleo

As long as we're on the same page here, and when I refer to a cup of coffee, I mean BLACK- no cream, no cream-er, no sugar, real or fake… BLACK.  Black as midnight on a moonless night, to be exact!


Funny to mention that when I tell clients that a black coffee on occasion, or when preparing for endurance activity is acceptable on The Paleo Diet, they breathe a sigh of relief and suddenly feel that it actually IS doable!


Caffeine can increase alertness and improve short-term recall, provides a source of anti oxidants, may reduce the risk of cirrhosis of the liver among heavy drinkers and  can postpone muscle fatigue.  Studies have also shown that it can aid in the recovery process after an endurance workout.

If you follow the Paleo Diet with strict compliance, you're eating a very alkaline diet.  If one cup of black coffee is the only source of acidity in your day and you are staying hydrated via plenty of water, my own take is that that Cuppa Joe has my Paleo Stamp of Approval.
