Balance it out.

If there is that one family-traditional dish that you MUST serve, but it's laden with  not-so-healthy ingredients, make a point of all the other components of the meal being uber-healthy.   

There's definitely a time and place for the occasional splurge, and if you plan ahead for it and have a small portion along with your steamed veg, grilled fish and olive oil, you can fit it in and stay right on track without worrying about weight gain and crashing blood sugar levels.
